Best Practices to Ensure a Clean Migration from a Discoverer EUL to an OBIEE Repository
The following recommendations will help ensure that the Discoverer migration utility creates a "clean" RPD file. These steps will also help prevent "consistency check" errors when you run the global consistency check in Oracle Business Intelligence Administration Edition.
1. Ensure that you are using Discoverer 10.1.2.3 in your Oracle Discoverer environment. If you are not using this patch level, you should upgrade Discoverer Administration Edition first.
2. After confirming that your Discoverer Administration Edition is at patch level 10.1.2.3 (Discoverer version 10.1.2.55.26), login to Oracle Discoverer Administration Edition as the EULOWNER and open and highlight all business areas -> choose File -> Refresh and refresh the entire EUL.
NOTE:
If you are performing the migration on an Oracle Applications mode EUL, you should be logged in to Discoverer Administration Edition as the Oracle Applications user/responsibility that has "Administer" privileges on your EUL. Typically, this is the SYSADMIN/Systems Administrator responsibility, but it could also be "Applications Developer", or other responsibility that you may have designated.
3. After completing EUL refresh, while still logged in to Discoverer Administration Edition -> Choose View -> Validate Folders.
4. After folder validation completes, expand all business areas and folders and ensure that there are no ORA errors present. If you find ORA errors, you must address the error(s) and correct any problems before proceeding.
5. Then while still logged in to Oracle Discoverer Administration Edition, choose Tools -> Manage Folders -> Orphaned Folders. If any folders are listed, review and try to determine if the folders are still required. If yes, ensure that the folders are assigned to a valid business area using the Manage Folders utility.
6. After completing these actions, your EUL should be in a "clean" status and is ready for export. Select File -> Export -> Entire EUL -> Click Next -> Save the Export file to a temporary location - i.e. C:\temp\EntireEUL.eex.
NOTE:
If your EUL is very large, you may want to create incremental EEX files by exporting several business areas at a time rather than just creating one huge EEX file. When doing incremental exports, extra care should be taken to export related business areas at the same time (i.e. to ensure joins are also exported).
7. Continue with Discoverer EEX migration to OBIEE.
